Advance A Second Amendment Preservation Act That Has Fangs!

Gun control activists have hijacked the South Dakota Second Amendment Preservation Act and turned it into a bill that would further restrict your rights. South Dakota deserves better – and that is why we need your help.

The South Dakota Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA), HB 1052, was defeated on the State House floor Tuesday by a 39 to 28 vote.

An early version of HB 1052 was a reasonable starting point to safeguard the liberties of South Dakota citizens from federal overreach. GOA appreciates the hard work of Rep. Aaron Aylward (R-Dist. 6) to bring this critical idea forward for discussion.

Special interest groups added regulations to the bill to ensure South Dakota wouldn’t lose specific federal funding. These regulations mirror portions of the 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) – which we also oppose at the federal level – that would restrict people from possessing firearms without due process. So, for this session, HB 1052 is dead. But there is still another option for protecting your Second Amendment rights.

SB 209 is indeed advancing through the South Dakota Senate. Sadly, SB 209 is only a resolution. It doesn’t have any penalties to hold state government officials accountable to We the People!

But the bill can be amended with prudent provisions that contain teeth – ONLY if we take action right now!

The legislative clock is ticking. GOA urges you to hold your elected officials accountable and demand they pass SAPA legislation that actually protects the liberties of South Dakota citizens.

If we wish to have a rebirth of liberty within this nation, we must passionately strive to preserve liberty. That effort begins with the Sovereign States adhering to their mandate to defend the liberties of their citizens from unconstitutional Federal overreach.
