Your Action is Needed to Stop Anti-Gun Legislation in Louisiana!

Two bills originally scheduled to be voted on by the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice during “Gun Day” last Tuesday, have been rescheduled for this upcoming Tuesday, April 19th, at 9:30 AM.

The first bill is the anti-firearm preemption bill HB209 by Rep. Mandie Landry.

Currently, Louisiana has a strong firearm preemption law which prohibits local government from enacting any ordinance or regulation that is more restrictive than state law. If this bill were to become law it would remove this preemption protection, allowing certain local governing authorities to make their own laws regarding firearms. This would allow for the creation of a patchwork of gun laws throughout the state, and create the scenario where a law-abiding gun owner could violate the law just by driving from one parish or municipality to another. That is why this bill must be stopped!

The second is pro-gun bill HB483 by Rep. Travis Johnson. This bill shortens the time period before a person with a non-violent felony conviction is allowed to possess a firearm, carry a concealed weapon, or apply for a concealed handgun permit from 10 years to five years.

These bills are scheduled to be heard this Tuesday, April 19th, and the deadline to contact the committee is before 12:00 PM Monday, April 18th.

As a citizen of Louisiana and a supporter of Gun Owners of America, I believe that protecting my right to keep and bear arms is one of the most important issues facing our state and country today. As such, I strongly and respectfully urge you and the other members of this committee to support, protect, and defend my right, and the right of all law-abiding Louisianans, to keep and bear arms by:
