VA: OUTLAWED? AR-15 Ban is One Step Closer to Becoming Law!

HB 2 Passes House of Delegates

Dear friend,

Last week, the Virginia House of Delegates voted on party lines to pass HB 2.

As I have told you before, this bill is one of the worst so-called “assault weapon” ban bills in the country. In fact, GOA has a full breakdown of the bill here.

But in short, some of the lowlights of HB 2 are:

  • Prohibits the import, sale, manufacture, possession, transport or transfer of an “assault weapon.”
  • Changes the law to require that any person purchasing an “assault weapon” from a dealer be 21 years of age or older.
  • Expands the definition of “assault firearms” — including more rifles, shotguns and handguns.
  • Makes it a crime for any person to import, sell, barter, or transfer a “large capacity” ammunition feeding device.

During debate, pro-gun Delegate Nick Freitas rightly pointed out one of the many problems with this bill, stating, “So, instead of like a typical stock like you would see on a hunting rifle, you have a pistol grip. Now it’s an ‘assault weapon.’ The reason why I call that arbitrary is because it is. It’s a question of ergonomics.”

Concerningly, the Senate has a companion bill to HB 2, known as SB 2. That bill is also inching its way to passing.

Gun owners cannot afford to let this type of legislation pass the Senate. Urge your Senator and Gov. Glenn Youngkin to oppose HB 2/SB 2 and the many other gun control bills in the General Assembly!
