Vote for a Pro-gun Speaker!
Vote for a Pro-gun Speaker!
Dear Representative:
On behalf of one million law-abiding gun owners, we are writing to ask that you vote for a pro-gun alternative to John Boehner for Speaker of the House of Representatives.
No group worked harder to oust and minimalize Nancy Pelosi than we did. So we were disappointed when the House Republican leadership team — after gaining the majority — resolutely refused to denounce all gun control across-the-board, even as a Democratic Senate was voting it down.
GOA also fought the anti-gun immigration bill, which would have created 8 million or more new anti-gun voters — only to be opposed by a House leadership team which explored every angle to send an amnesty bill to the Oval Office.
A 2013 Pew research poll suggested that illegals, if given citizenship, would vote for liberal, anti-gun candidates by a whopping 8-1 margin. That’s millions of new votes going to Democrats in national and state elections.
We are confounded that Speaker John Boehner has refused to fight the President on funding for his executive amnesty.
But the “last straw” was Speaker Boehner’s collusion with Barack Obama and Harry Reid in order to approve the anti-gun Cromnibus bill. Boehner lied to individual members in order to secure the votes to pass the rule — falsely promising the “swing vote” that he would replace the Cromnibus with a short-term CR if the rule was approved.
As a matter of substance, the Cromnibus funds the anti-gun ObamaCare law and executive amnesty. Not only that, the bill increases funds, by $13 million, for the widely abused NICS system. The bill rewards the ATF for its illegal Fast and Furious program with an extra $22 million. It provides $73 million for states like New York to impose gun bans when psychiatrists, as a result of its anti-gun “SAFE” Act, send the name of law-abiding New Yorkers to NICS. And the bill provides $3 million to “encourage” Americans to put their firearms under lock and key, meaning that their guns will not be available during a burglary or home invasion.
In a move that is the political equivalent of treason, Boehner tried to counter hemorrhaging support among Republicans by asking Nancy Pelosi to provide the votes necessary for passage. And when Pelosi bailed on their deal — and, ultimately, opposed the bill — there was Boehner and Obama, working side-by-side to line up votes to pass the Cromnibus.
This is unacceptable behavior for a party leader. We hope that no one will support Boehner now — thinking they can credibly oppose him later when he works with Obama and Pelosi to destroy conservative pro-gun principles.
Sincerely,
Tim Macy
