Concealed Carry on Campus: Larry Pratt to Speak at Gustavus Adolphus College
Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, is coming to the Gustavus Adolphus College campus on Thursday, April 28th at 7:30 PM to discuss the merits of allowing concealed carry on the Gustavus campus.
The public program, to be held in Alumni Hall, is organized by “Gusties for Campus Carry,” a group of students who advocate allowing Minnesota permit-to-carry holders to possess a firearm while on the Gustavus campus. It is funded by the Gustavus College Republicans.
The event chairman, Phil Cleary, says “individuals allowed to arm themselves for personal protection under state law should be allowed to do so under Gustavus regulation as well.”
According to Cleary, it is law-abiding students who are the victims of Gustavus policies that leave them defenseless against violent crime.
“Gustavus wrongfully forces students to choose between the means to protect themselves and their education, or risking their good standing with the university. That is an immoral and unnecessary dilemma for Gustavus to force upon students. We need to have a real conversation about resolving this issue, and few people are more qualified to start that conversation than Larry Pratt.”
His group supports reforming Gustavus’ weapons policy to allow state recognized permit-to-carry holders the same rights on campus that they have virtually everywhere else.
“We hope bringing Pratt to campus will spark the administration’s interest in changing the weapon policy to allow for more reasonable measures of personal protection.”
You don’t want to miss this memorable event. Please invite your friends, family, and classmates. There is no charge for admission, there is free visitor parking on-campus, and finding Gustavus is easy.
