GOA Backs Bill to Keep the Second Amendment ‘Essential’

Springfield, VA – Gun Owners of America (GOA) today announces support for new legislation by Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA). The bill is entitled the “Second Amendment is Essential Act” and would ensure that Federal Firearms License Holders are always considered “essential” by the federal government in times of emergency. Aidan Johnston, GOA’s Director of Federal Affairs, stated:

Rep. Newhouse’s legislation clarifies that the government has no authority to infringe upon the essential role that Federal Firearms License holders fulfill in maintaining the right to keep and bear arms—such as during a pandemic and nationwide civil unrest. It is unconscionable to subject our constitutionally-protected rights to the whimsical “health” concerns of anti-gun politicians and bureaucrats. Congress can never allow these failed gun laws to harm American gun owners again.

The bill can be viewed here.

Aidan Johnston, or another GOA spokesperson, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit grassroots lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over two million members and activists. For more information, visit GOA’s Press Center.
