VIDEO: ARMED CITIZEN INTERVENES, STOPS MASS SHOOTING IN GEORGIA LIQUOR STORE

On May 31, an armed citizen pulled his own gun and opened fire on an alleged attacker inside a Georgia liquor store, thereby ending a would-be mass shooting.

The incident took place in Magnet Bottle Shop in Conyers, Georgia.

Surveillance video from the liquor store shows 36-year-old Jeffrey Scott Pitts allegedly enter the business just before 5 pm and open fire. He appears to randomly shoot at anyone in his path but turns and leaves the building when an armed citizen off-camera returns fire.

On June 1, Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett held a press conference in which he praised the armed citizen—44-year-old Todd C. Scott—for ending the attack.

According to the Rockdale Citizen, Levett said:

I believe that if Mr. Scott did not return fire at the suspect then more of those customers would have hit [sic] by a gun… It didn’t appear that he cared who he shot or where he was shooting until someone was shooting back at him. So in my opinion he saved other lives in that store.

He ultimately referred to Scott as a “hero.”
