Harrisburg Gun Grabbers Want to Criminalize Your Self-Defense!

The anti-gun Democrats in Harrisburg are launching yet another direct assault on your God-given rights.

On Monday, June 8th, the House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear two highly critical bills. This committee is run by Representative Tim Briggs (D-149), one of the most rabidly anti-gun members of the House who proudly sports a miserable F- rating from Gun Owners of America.

Briggs and his gun-grabbing allies are trying to push through a dangerous agenda, and we need you to take action IMMEDIATELY to stop them.

First, they are running HB 2244, a tyrannical safe storage mandate. This is nothing more than a blatant attempt by the government to micro-manage how you defend your own home.

HB 2244 would mandate that you “lock up your safety” or face devastating consequences. Under this bill, if you do not store your firearms in a government-approved manner, you will be subject to both criminal prosecution and strict civil liability. If a criminal breaks into your home and steals your property, you are the one the state wants to punish!

Not only that, but this bill would subject hardworking gun dealers to criminal prosecution if they do not display government-mandated signs preaching “safe storage.” This is a tyrannical overreach of the highest order, designed to shame gun owners and penalize those who want immediate access to self-defense.

Second, the committee will hear HB 2245. This bill would exempt gun locks and gun safes from Pennsylvania’s sales tax.

While GOA absolutely agrees that safety equipment should not be taxed, this bill simply DOES NOT go far enough. Why should the state continue to tax your constitutionally-protected purchase of the firearms and ammunition themselves?

Fortunately, Representative Stephanie Borowicz (R-76) is fighting back. She will be offering a crucial committee amendment to expand HB 2245 to include ALL firearms and ammunition for sales tax exemption. This amendment is based on her existing bill, HB 582, which does exactly that.

We must send a clear message to Harrisburg: We will not accept half-measures, and we will NOT allow the state to criminalize our self-defense.

• Vote NO on HB 2244 to defeat the dangerous “lock up your safety” mandate.
• Support Representative Borowicz’s amendment to HB 2245 to exempt ALL firearms and ammunition from the state sales tax.
