The bill would remove suppressors from our “Dangerous Ordnance” statutes, but it needs to be expanded to also remove short-barreled firearms as well. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms already published official guidance that de-regulated these items on the federal level, and Attorney General Wilson published a letter asking for legislators like you to fix the issue state side. Please consider amending and passing the bill before session ends and it’s too late. Thank you for your time and consideration; I am counting on you to support my right to keep and bear arms. |

GOA’s historic victory against the National Firearms Act may be stalled in Ohio for years if legislators don’t start moving next week. On August 5, GOA and our fellow plaintiffs won a federal court victory in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF against NFA registration requirements for suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), and short-barreled shotguns (SBSs). Then, on October 9, ATF announced it would stop enforcing these requirements nationwide. Then, on October 23, the Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson urged lawmakers to fix the issue in an official letter. Ohio still classifies suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs as “dangerous ordnance” under ORC Section 2923.17. |
The Election Makes This Issue URGENT |

Come 2027, Ohio will not have a conservative governor that will approve pro-2A bills coming from the state legislature. Furthermore, Ohio lost its supermajority in the House, meaning it will be nearly impossible to override the governor’s veto in order to sign gun rights legislation into law. That means members of the Ohio House Public Safety Committee must ACT NOW. Senate Bill 214 has already passed the Senate, almost unanimously; it simply needs amendments to include short-barreled firearms as well. GOA’s attorneys have already drafted amendments to address this problem. SB 214 is the fastest and simplest vehicle for delivering victory. We’re asking you to call members in the Ohio House Public Safety Committee, and urge them to amend and pass Senate Bill 214 before it’s too late. |
