A bill to protect your right to carry a firearm concealed without a permit, while you are traveling in your car, has passed out of a Senate committee by a 7-2 vote.

The legislation is Senate Bill 14, and it represents a step towards full Constitutional Carry.

The concept of “constitutional carry” is simple:  An individual’s ability to exercise his or her Second Amendment rights shouldn’t depend on a “permit” from the government. 

You don’t need a government license to write a book.  So why should you have to get the government’s okay in order to carry a firearm to protect yourself and your family? 

Yes, it would be nice for this bill to protect you no matter where you are — whether you are carrying in your car or walking into the local WalMart with a concealed handgun.  But this bill is a good first step to get to that end-goal, where citizens can carry concealed throughout the state without begging permission from a government bureaucrat.
