HB 2060 Throws Out Due Process, Requires Confiscation of Guns for Certain Individuals

Dear Friend:

With time running out, the Republican compromisers in the Pennsylvania House joined with Democrats to pass gun control legislation and send it to the Pennsylvania Senate.

That bill is HB 2060, and you can see how your representative voted by going here.

(The names of pro-gun representatives are in red, as they voted AGAINST HB 2060. Anti-gun representatives who voted for the gun control bill are listed in green.)

A majority of Republicans voted against the bill, even as their anti-gun leadership tried to stampede them.

The House passage of HB 2060 was predictably lauded by Democrat Governor Tom Wolf who issued a press release to “congratulate … gun safety advocates” on their victory.

Of course, the bill would do nothing to improve the safety of Pennsylvanians, while it will result in people losing their guns because of false allegations.

What HB 2060 would do is require you to forfeit your Second Amendment rights within 24 hours of the issuance of a “star-chamber” secret protective order against you.

Pennsylvania already has such “temporary” protective orders, without accountability. HB 2060 would expand the loss of rights by “mandating” the relinquishment of ALL firearms, other weapons and all ammunition when a “permanent” protective order is issued “WITHIN” 24 hours or face prosecution. This bill will also cause police to lose their jobs to a weaponized protective order.

When only the accuser is in the room a judge will normally sign the order without asking any questions. Consider, by analogy, that:

* In Seattle, 28 of 29 gun confiscation orders were approved.

* In an analogous proceeding in New Mexico, a judge granted a restraining order against David Letterman for sending coded messaged over the TV to a New Mexico housewife.

If HB 2060 becomes law, and a judge were to someday order the removal of your guns, you would have the “right” to spend $10,000 of your own money to try and convince a judge he made a mistake.

But this is NEVER successful.

There is still time to kill the bill in the Senate, which has only a few days to go — and a majority of members who are pro-gun Republicans.

So please call your state senator and urge him or her to oppose HB 2060.  Again, if you don’t know who your senator is, you can use the Find My Legislator function to find out — and then click on your senator’s name to get the phone number.

You can also click here to send an email.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Michael Hammond
