More GOP Cosponsor Gun Control Bill

Help Us DEFEAT Remaining Gun Control Provisions

Good news and bad news regarding the Senate “compromise” on the leftist reauthorization of S. 3623, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (also known as VAWA).

The good news is that GOA was able to pressure Senators to take out a lot of terrible anti-gun provisions which were passed by the House.  The bad news is not all of the anti-gun provisions were removed.

We need you to contact both of your Senators today and tell them to remove all anti-gun language.

Violence Against Women Act Weaponized for Gun Control

Domestic violence is not a partisan issue.  But congressional Democrats want to use it as a vehicle to enact their gun control agenda.

GOA has long advocated for restoring battered spouses’ right to protect themselves by removing firearms waiting periods and other obstacles which prevent them from protecting themselves and their families.

Suffice it to say, the bill does nothing to help the abused protect themselves.  Rather, it showers money on special interest groups who support anti-gun politicians.

Instead of empowering people to defend and protect themselves, this bill seeks to keep victims as victims and denying them the ability to learn how to overcome their victimhood by exercising their Constitutional and God-given right of self-defense through a firearm.

Stand up for what you believe in and tell your Senators to oppose this bill!

Is your supposedly “pro-gun” Senator on this list?

Our action alert tool includes a special scolding just for them!

As you can see, this new excuse for gun control is quickly gaining support across the aisle.

Contact your Senators now and tell them to get off or stay off VAWA.

How An Anti-Gun Bill Became Bi-Partisan

At least initially, congressional Democrats were demanding that Republicans agree to massive gun control items as a condition for “graciously” allowing the GOP to support their anti-gun agenda.

Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of our friends on Capitol Hill and our activists across the nation, Democrats have been forced – for the time being –  to drop the worst of the gun control provisions.

“Red flag” gun confiscation, federal grants to fund firearm seizures, as well as the expansion of the unconstitutional Lautenberg Amendment – which would permanently strip Americans of constitutional rights for misdemeanors – have all been removed.

And the White House is hopping mad about this.  Even so, they are going all gas and no breaks towards ramming through other anti-gun provisions.

The Anti-Gun Parts

Sections 1101 and 1102 of S. 3623 would mandate the FBI and prosecutors to use their resources to persecute Americans who are deemed to be “prohibited persons,” even though 9 of 10 of these FBI determinations are flat-out FBI errors.

When more and more gun purchasers are reported to be waiting long periods of time for the FBI to perform its “Instant [sic] check,” the FBI is going to be diverting its resources to go after innocent Americans.  And, although it’s also required to report when those denials were erroneous, law enforcement can take its own sweet time to do this.

It really is no coincidence that, out of the tens of thousands of recent FBI “denials” of firearms purchases, only 13 of the supposedly illegal purchasers were successfully prosecuted according to a DOJ report in 2010.

In addition, section 1103 authorizes the Justice Department to make special appointments and deputizations to prosecute new gun control laws.

Don’t let this bill get across the finish line!

Where We Are Now

If this bill passes, there will be more law-abiding gun owners behind bars, more anti-gun expenditures, and longer waits.

You can blame both Democrats and Republicans for this.  Granted, the bill is not as bad as it was.  But we at Gun Owners of America are proud to stand firm on principle and not compromising your rights.

GOA will not stop fighting this bill until it has zero gun control provisions.  The best way you can join in the fight is by contacting both of your Senators today.
