Gun Owners Foundation Celebrates 40 Years of Defending the Second Amendment

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) celebrates forty years of defending Americans’ Second Amendment rights in the Courts. GOF serves as the sister organization of Gun Owners of America (GOA), a national nonprofit grassroots lobbying organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Second Amendment.
Over the last four decades, GOF has:
- Filed thousands of FOIA requests,
- Filed thousands of amicus briefs, including in major cases such as Heller, McDonald and Bruen, and
- Filed hundreds of legal challenges to executive actions and legislation at the federal and state level.
GOF’s FOIA requests have uncovered damning activity at federal agencies, including the ATF’s partial gun registry which comprises nearly 1 billion firearm transaction records, as well as the FBI’s Self Indices NICS form, which was illegally created to allow Americans to sign away their Second Amendment rights.
Currently, GOF has several legal cases pending in federal and state courts, including challenges to the Biden Pistol Brace Ban, the Biden Ghost Gun/Frame and receiver Rule, the misnamed New York Concealed Carry Improvement Act, and Oregon Measure 114.
GOF also runs a student-based education group, 2A Defenders, that works to educate college students about the text, history, and tradition of their Second Amendment, and they also have just started a new educational show, Bullet Points with Dan Wos, to discuss the key issues facing the Second Amendment.
Erich Pratt, the Senior Vice President of GOF, issued the following statement:
“GOF’s mission laid out by our founder H.L. Richardson has been clear from the beginning – to restore the Second Amendment and ensure that its rights and privileges shall not be infringed. Whether from our FOIA requests, briefs, or direct legal challenges, our work has been invaluable to lawmakers, judges, and the public at large, and we will never stop as the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”
Sam Paredes, on behalf of the board for GOF, added:
“Especially at a time when our God-given rights face a seemingly endless assault from anti-gunners, our work at GOF is ever more critical. As we’ve been saying to those who disregard freedoms – fall in line, or we will make you.”
Here’s what others are saying on this special anniversary:
“Without GOF’s willingness to stand up for gun owners in the court, the D.C. v. Heller case would have had a different ending,” said Dick Heller. “GOF was the only brief to focus on the Text, History and Tradition of the Second Amendment. It was their argument that pushed us over the edge to victory.”
“As a steadfast defender of the Second Amendment, I am honored to have joined forces with the Gun Owners of America and their sister organization, the Gun Owners Foundation,” said Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah). “For decades, these organizations have fought to preserve one of our most cherished liberties, and I am proud to stand alongside them. As the battle continues, I expect we’ll remain united in our efforts, whether in the courtroom, in the halls of Congress, or in advocacy efforts.”
“GOF has been on the front lines of the legal fight to protect and restore the Second Amendment for decades, and I look forward to continue working with them and all those at the Gun Owners Foundation as we push back on the tyrannical assault by this current administration on our rights,” said Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas).
