GOA Urges Sen. Joni Ernst to Not Cave to Anti-Gunners on VAWA

Springfield, VA – Gun Owners of America (GOA) has learned that Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein is trying to force Iowa Senator Joni Ernst to “negotiate” over the unconstitutional wish-list of add-ons stuck onto the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) reauthorization by the House.

“GOA is calling on Ernst to back away from any temptation to haggle over how much of the House’s anti-gun, far left agenda that Senate Republicans will accept,” Michael Hammond, legislative counsel for GOA said.

Recently, the Pelosi-led House took the reauthorization of VAWA created by former Democrat Vice President Leftist Joe Biden and snuck in essentially the Left’s entire agenda, including onerous gun control.

The House bill includes measures similar to so-called “Red Flag” laws, properly known as Gun Confiscation Orders. These proposals essentially allow gun confiscation with no due process.  One red flag gun confiscation turned deadly, as in the case of Gary Willis, an African-American who was killed by police serving the order.

“The bill would allow an angry relative to take away one’s gun by making a telephone call to a plaint judge,” Hammond continued.

Additionally, this legislation hosts several other constitutional concerns.

In fact, Ranking House Republican, Doug Collins, stated, “This radical legislation stands no chance of becoming law and is merely evidence of the majority’s regrettable intent to weaponize this important legislation to score political points.”

“But now liberal anti-gun Senator Dianne Feinstein is trying to get Senator Joni Ernst to ‘negotiate’ over the House-passed pile of legislative garbage,” Hammond concluded. “Sen. Ernst should stand for the Constitution and the Second Amendment, and not negotiate with Sen. Feinstein.”

Michael Hammond, or another GOA spokesman, is available for interviews.
