FL: Constitutional Carry Can Happen If You Do Your Part!

Florida is at a crucial point. We have a Republican supermajority in the legislature with a pro-gun governor at the helm. Yet, Constitutional Carry is languishing.

As Gun Owners of America’s Florida State Director, I am asking all of our members to please call the following elected officials and tell them, as a Floridian, you want Constitutional Carry. Contact them at:

  • Governor Ron DeSantis at 850-717-9337 (Capitol Office).
  • House Speaker Chris Sprowls at 850-717-5065 (Capitol Office) & 727-793-2810 (District Office).
  • Senate President Wilton Simpson at 850-487-5010 (Capitol Office) & 352-688-5077(District Office).
  • House Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee Chair, Rep. Chuck Brannan III at 850-717-5010 (Capitol Office), 386-758-0405, & 904-259-0995 (District Offices).
  • Senate Judiciary Committee Chair, Sen. Danny Burgess at 850-487-5020 (Capitol Office) & 813-779-7059 (District Office).
  • Republican Party of Florida Chair, Sen. Joe Gruters at 850-487-5023 (Capitol Office), 941-378-6309 (District Office), & 850-222-7920 (FL Republican Party HQ).
  • Senate Majority Leader Debbie Mayfield at 850-487-5017 (Capitol Office), 772-226-1970, & 321-409-2025 (District Offices).

Last year, Constitutional Carry died under Republican control in the Florida House’s Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee, then chaired by Rep. Cord Byrd (FL-R). This year, Constitutional Carry (HB 103) was assigned to the same committee and it is chaired by Rep. Chuck Brannan III (FL-R) and he is giving the same excuse as to why Constitutional Carry will not advance. Rep. Brannan III claims that there needs to be a “Senate Companion Bill”.

Yet, we all know that isn’t the case, but that is the game they are playing.

As such, Floridians have put the legislative leadership on notice and it is through their efforts that they have gotten the following lawmakers on record on where they stand about Constitutional Carry.

Governor Ron DeSantis (FL-R) stated that he would sign the bill if it reached his desk. Senate President Wilton Simpson (FL-R) has stated that he would vote for Constitutional Carry if it reaches the Senate floor and he would back a proposed Senate companion bill if a Senate committee introduces it . Senate Majority Leader Debbie Mayfield (FL-R) says she openly supports Constitutional Carry and so does the Republican Party of Florida’s chairman, Senator Joe Gruters (FL-R).

The only legislative leader that has not stated where he stands is the Speaker of the House, Representative Chris Sprowls (FL-R).

But that will soon be answered too. But with all of this, the back chatter is that Constitutional Carry still won’t move forward under Republican leadership.

The Governor already has called out anti-gun lawmakers.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis calling out anti-gun lawmakers during the State of the State address, January 11, 2022.

We need you to do the same.

As a Floridian, tell Governor DeSantis he must openly call for the passage of Constitutional Carry this legislative session. Tell House Speaker Sprowls that the Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee must bring up HB 103 for a vote. Tell Rep. Brannan III that as the chair of the Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee, he must bring up HB 103 for a vote. Tell Senate President Simpson that the Judiciary Committee must introduce a Proposed Committee Bill that mirrors HB 103 and tell Sen. Burgess that as the chair of the Judiciary Committee. He must introduce the Proposed Committee Bill that mirrors HB 103.

Also, tell Senate Majority Leader Mayfield and RPOF Chair, Sen. Gruters that you expect them to keep their words and fully back Constitutional Carry by having them put pressure on Senate President Simpson and Sen. Burgess to get a Proposed Committee Bill that mirrors HB 103 introduced and voted on in the Senate’s Judiciary Committee.

Again, you need to call the following elected officials. Make their phones ring off the hook! Contact them at:
