CO: Urgent! All Hands are Required to Stop a Ban on Commonly Held Arms in Colorado!

All Hands are Required to Stop a Ban on Commonly Held Arms in Colorado!

The Nation Makers by Howard Pyle (1903)

The State Assembly is continuing to expand its draconian edicts that will eviscerate remnants of lawful firearms ownership in Colorado.

House Bill 23-1230 is intended to stop all legal commerce and would significantly curtail ownership of commonly held arms that are protected under the Second Amendment. Of the roughly 393 million lawfully owned firearms in the United States, over 20 million are of the type that would be arbitrarily banned as so-called “assault weapons.”

Of special concern to all current owners, the sweeping language of this unconstitutional edict would ban commonly held arms that have ONE of the capricious characteristics of a so-called “assault weapon” from being sold within Colorado. Meaning that if your semiautomatic firearm has ONE of the following features it will be an “assault weapon:” capability of excepting a detachable “high” capacity magazine, lighter weight trigger, a threaded barrel, pistol grip, adjustable stock, barrel shroud (forend) , flash hider or compensator… In short, these egregious infringements would ban most semiautomatic long guns apart from a few bolt, lever, and pump actions that do not exceed the ammunition capacity limit and have a fixed magazine.

Furthermore, a it would also ban a “part or combination of parts designed or intended to convert a firearm into an assault weapon,” meaning you will not have access to spare parts, and you cannot transfer the firearm to your heirs. Nor can the entrepreneurial types cross State lines to buy these arms because importation is banned.

There is absolutely no historical basis for such loathsome restrictions that prohibit a free people from the liberty to buy arms of their choosing or being forced to show their “papers” to prove ownership of arms that are necessary for the security of a “Free State?”

We have allowed this totalitarian non-sense for far too long…

These un-American proclamations are clearly unconstitutional based upon self-evident truths and right reason. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects “the right of the people to keep and bear arms,” as well as its auxiliary rights. The Supreme Court, in D.C. v. Heller, McDonald v. Chicago, and New York State Rifle and Pistol Assoc., Inc. v. Bruen, has affirmed this right to be a “fundamental” and “individual” right of “the people.” The Court has also held that the Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect the right to possess and carry arms in defense of life, as well as its corollaries. In fact, the Court in Heller and again in Bruen found that the Second Amendment “elevates above all other interests the right of law-abiding, responsible citizens to use arms’ for self-defense.” Thus, the proper role of government is to secure the God-given and unalienable rights of the people!

This legislation is a clear and present danger to our liberties that the government is tasked with protecting. Yet the Colorado legislature is poised to pass this regulation irrespective of the fact that there is no text, history, and tradition to support these types of capricious bans. It is also blatantly apparent that the Democrat controlled legislature does not care how much it will cost the taxpayer to defend these unconstitutional infringements within the courts.

These inanimate tools are commonly owned for defense of the individual and the nation. As tools, they carry no characteristics of intent. It is the person employing the tool that imparts the intention of good or evil. Should a pen carry a stigma for the operator’s libelous words? Such is the lack of right reason that lies at the heart of these unprincipled laws and misguided “just do something” policies that do not address the root causes of the complex issues facing our country.

The concerning and heart-breaking violent crime that America is currently grappling with is a social issue that is inherently linked to the human soul. Banning tools that have saved countless lives will not solve the underlying social problems within our nation. Rather, it will only strip law-abiding citizens of the right to “keep and bear arms” in defense of their life, liberty, and property.

Meaning, that these edicts will only create more victims…

Given that no benevolent despot is going to save us, “We the People” must stand for future generations of Coloradans and defend our God-given rights!

We need to aggressively, but respectfully, fight with the pen (or keyboard), because a government that forces the citizenry to ask permission before exercising their God-given rights or denies whole groups of citizens essential liberties is one that views those cherished freedoms as mere privileges to be revoked at their impulsive whims.

Moreover, if we allow elected officials to behave in such a shameful and pompous manner, how long before they start to believe that they are a platonic priest class of “law givers” lording over the feeble peasantry?

Our rights are not only self-evidently true, but they are also endowed upon us by our Creator. Thus, they are not granted by government nor can they be stripped away by any human. That timeless truth is such, regardless of whether the infringing misconduct is instigated by a lawless individual or by the actions of an unjust government.

If we wish to have a rebirth of freedom within Colorado, it must begin within each of us. Once we grasp the First Principles that govern our liberties and the implied civic duties, the next step is to hold our elected officials accountable for their failure to defend our rights.

Colorado, are You Going to Allow Such Obviously Gutless Surrendering of Your God-given Rights? Or are You Bold Enough to Face Down these Socialists and Defend Your Liberties?

That is why it is imperative to please show up at the State House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday the 19th at 09:30 AM in the Old State Library (committee room on the second floor of the capitol, Room 271).

As a free people languishing under the oppressive pronouncements of an unjust government, you must understand that no one is coming to save you from this despotism! Only by remaining true to the principles of our constitutional republic, can we effect positive change and give pause to these tyrants. By participating in the political process, you will have adhered to your civic duty to hold the government accountable.

Now, it is up to you to hold the line and assert your rights against this tidal wave of authoritarianism!

The final death blow to the God-given right to defend life, liberty, and property is about to occur. While such rights cannot be removed as they are inherent to our humanity, once a draconian government chooses to ignore the constitutional constraints on their power and begins to strip the citizenry of their liberty, it becomes a monumental task to restore those rights.

A fundamental question remains: Does Colorado still have the requisite moral courage to stand in the breach against this despotism?
