“Bloombergers” Try to Keep Gun Control Alive Through Anti-gun Studies

The “Bloomberg Bunch” started the year with optimism.

In the Senate, S.B. 244 would have imposed gun bans on thousands of Granite Staters with guardians or commitments because of various maladies, including PTSD or ADHD.

Anyone who doesn’t think S.B. 244 is part of the Bloomberg agenda should consider an Associated Press article that ran in the state newspapers last October — an article entitled “N.H. gun control bills would add mental health checks.”

The article begins:

[A] pair of bills limiting access to guns when mental health problems arise could test the state’s entrenched belief in unfettered gun rights.

The bills will be considered [in 2014]. They are among perhaps a dozen or more gun control-related bills ranging from banning assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines to forbidding such a ban if passed by Congress.

Gun control advocates have failed over the years to restrict gun owners’ rights to keep and bear arms, but the two bills approaching the issue from a mental health viewpoint are getting early bipartisan support.

According to this article, gun control advocates had “failed” over the years to restrict gun owners’ rights, so they have now declared they will use “mental health” issues as a mechanism for coming in the back door to restrict the Second Amendment rights of those who may not have done anything wrong. In other words, the anti-gun advocates just hate guns.

Not surprisingly, anti-gun Governor Maggie Hassan has stated her support for S.B. 244 — and for a similar gun control bill in the other chamber.

In the House, H.B. 1589 embodied Bloomberg’s universal registration scheme, mandating that anyone who sold a gun — even to a neighbor — would have to go through a background registration check.

Both of the original bills appear to be off the table for the moment. But they have been replaced with language authorizing two studies that stack the deck with anti-gun advocates — all with the intent to keep these two issues alive until after the November elections.

In the House, the gun registration study is H.B. 1264.  In the Senate, it is an amendment to S.B. 244.

The majority of the “studiers” in both of these bills will favor gun bans — particularly when you consider that both anti-gun politicians and a couple of “pro-gun” groups who are supporting gun bans will help pick the members of the study commission.

The same New Hampshire “pro-gun” group that fought to pass the Veterans Disarmament Act of 2007 — and continues to defend this law which has now disarmed more than 150,000 military veterans — smugly says of an elderly lady with Alzheimer’s, “Would you want her to have guns?”

The answer is there are plenty of elderly Granite Staters with large gun collections. They do not pose a danger to anyone. But they want to pass on their valuable guns collections to their kids and grandkids.

When a group mocks the elderly and demands that their guns be confiscated, does it then forfeit the right to speak for the Second Amendment?
