Oil Executive Takes On Congressional Thug

It was one of the most revealing moments in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a hearing of the Judiciary Committee, Maxine Waters, a Democrat congresswoman from Los Angeles, was lecturing Shell Oil President John Hofmeister when she got caught up in the moment and blurted, “What guarantee are you going to give this liberal about how that will reduce the cost of gasoline if we let you drill where you want to drill? This liberal will be about socializing (deer caught in the headlights look), ah, ah, (wheels are turning but not getting any traction) would be about (pregnant pause) about (another pause while she desperately looks for a way to cover up her gaffe) about basically (pause) taking over and the government running all of your companies!”

Yes, Maxine Waters and at least 70 of her colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives are hard-core socialists. She gets my vote for the dumbest member of Congress — not because of her radical beliefs, but because she let this most unwelcome cat out of the bag.

Waters and her fellow socialists call themselves “progressives,” which is a benign term meant to mislead the electorate. Waters is a proud member of the Progressive Caucus, which is a spinoff of the Democrat Socialists of America. Until recently, the Progressive Caucus was hosted by the DSA-USA website. It now stands alone, but the goals and objectives are one and the same.

Bottom line of the DSA-USA: Democracy in its present form is the enemy of the masses who are too weak to fend for themselves. These “progressives” seek to use taxation and regulation to bring down the most productive members of society so that they can control them. They see the free enterprise system as unfair. It can stay — in name only — as long as they can manage it so that everyone will be equal to some arbitrary standard they set and enforce.

These “progressives” chair the most important standing committees in the House (Speaker Nancy Pelosi left the caucus when she became House minority leader — too much scrutiny), which helps explains why nothing worthwhile has been accomplished since the Democrats regained control of Congress.

As gaffes go, Maxine’s is right up there with John Kerry’s “I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it.”

Just how radical is Maxine Waters? She was one of the unabashed supporters of Fidel Castro, making many trips to the slave island to worship at the feet of this brutal dictator. She even wrote a letter of apology to Castro after voting in favor of a bill calling on him to turn over Joanne Chesimard, who murdered a New Jersey state trooper, escaped prison, fled to Cuba and changed her name. When Waters found out who Chesimard really was, she apologized and urged Castro to continue safeguarding the former Black Panther.

In 1992, during the Los Angeles riots in which 58 people were killed — she called it a rebellion — Waters excused the gang of black thugs who nearly murdered white truck driver Reginald Denny, saying, “The anger in my district is righteous. I’m just as angry as they are.” She also dismissed those who looted Korean-owned stores by saying, “They were mothers who took this as an opportunity to take some milk, to take some bread, to take some shoes. They are not crooks.”

Waters accused the CIA of selling crack cocaine in black neighborhoods, is a cosponsor of a resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney and one of only 15 members to vote against the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. In 2003, she was one of only 11 members to vote against the resolution to support our troops after the Iraq war began.

Just how did a radical like Waters come to power? In 1980, she became a member of the Democratic National Committee and helped gerrymander California’s congressional districts. For her effort she was appointed the successor to Democrat Rep. Augustus Hawkins by party bosses.

In 2005, she was named as one of the 13 “most corrupt” members of Congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics. This designation was based on the results of an investigation by the Los Angeles Times into noncompetitive awards of federal contracts to businesses owned by or connected to members of her family, including her husband, daughter and son.

It’s people like Maxine Waters, a majority deputy whip, who have hijacked the Democrat Party from otherwise reasonable people in the rank and file.

Maxine Waters is a prime example of why we don’t want government controlling a resource as vital to our survival as energy.
