LA: Pro-Gun Bills to be heard by House and Senate Committees!

This upcoming Tuesday (May 18th), Constitutional Carry bill SB118 and pro-gun bill HB124 will be heard by the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice and Senate Committee Judiciary C respectively.

SB118, by Senator Jay Morris, would restore the right of law-abiding gun owners, 21 years and older, to Conceal Carry a handgun in the state of Louisiana without a permit in those same places an individual can Open Carry. Additionally, SB 118 maintains the permit requirements that an individual may not carry and conceal a handgun while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled dangerous substance, as well as the duty of an individual to notify any police officer that he/she has a concealed handgun on their person.

HB124, by Representative Paul Hollis, provides an exception to the offense of illegally carrying a weapon for the concealed carrying of a handgun with a valid concealed handgun permit, and clarifies the types of instrumentalities covered by a concealed handgun permit.

SB118 will be heard by the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice at 9:00 a.m. in House Committee Room 6, while HB124 will be heard by Senate Committee Judiciary C at 10:00 a.m. in Senate Committee Room F.

I strongly encourage anyone who can to please come to the capitol! (Here are directions to the capitol and suggestions for parking if you are able to attend.)

It is vital that we take action and put the committee members on notice that we expect them to support and defend the right of law abiding Louisianans’ to keep and bear arms!

If you can, please call the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice at (225) 342-2409 and ask that the committee members SUPPORT and PASS SB118, and then call Senate Committee Judiciary C at (224) 342-2721 and ask that the committee members SUPPORT and PASS HB124.

Finally, please send a follow up email using the form above.
