As mentioned in our last alert, Gun Owners of America has never stopped fighting the good fight for Floridians’ Second Amendment rights.

GOA and Rep. Monique Miller (R-Palm Bay) have been working together since December 2024, crafting an open carry bill which will drastically improve our permitless carry law.

And in the last month we’ve seen Gov. Ron DeSantis, First Lady DeSantis, and even Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson supporting open carry.

It appears that Simpson, who introduced the Parkland gun control bill, is now beginning to understand that gun control is NOT the answer to increasing public safety. Rather, allowing law-abiding citizens to be armed is!

Remember, GOA’s core philosophy is no-compromise politics.

To break it down to its core, when a lawmaker does good, we thank them, and when they do bad, we hold them accountable.

And accountability is delivered through grassroots activists reminding lawmakers that we’re watching their votes and will remember how they acted when election season rolls around.

The fight to get good legislation into the Florida House and Senate isn’t something accomplished simply with the Governor saying he wants it done.

It takes lawmakers willing to stick their necks out.

That’s where lawmakers like Rep. Miller come in.

She understands what the Second Amendment is and for that, we thank her.

She stepped up to the plate before it was the cool thing to do this political season. Rep. Miller, a new member to the Florida House, told GOA she’d file an open carry bill, and it looks like that’s going to happen.

Again, we thank her for doing the right thing. The fight in the legislature will not be easy.

Rep. Miller said these words yesterday to news outlet Florida Politics:

“It is my sincere hope Florida can join the other 45 states that have some form of open carry in the country.”

That’s a thumbs-up in our book.

So how do we make open carry happen in Florida?

Remember, Senate President Ben Albritton said he’s against open carry because Florida’s sheriffs are. Well, we proved that to be false.

And recall, just last week, GOA asked the Governor where he stood on open carry. He said that any lawmaker who campaigns as pro-gun but takes anti-gun actions in the House and Senate, are lying to their voters that put them into office.

Well, Sen. Albritton campaigns that he’s pro-gun.

Actions speak louder than words, Mr. Senate President.

He can prove it by supporting the passage of open carry. Furthermore, House Speaker Daniel Perez needs to back Rep. Miller’s bill RIGHT NOW.
