The ATF & DOJ recently announced a package of 34 rules that allows the federal government to hold your information for up to 60 years.

And while Biden-era rulemaking forced ATF to hold your information “forever,” a change to 60-year retention is not a win for gun owners. In fact, it’s worse that the Obama-era status quo.

ATF's New Rule Holds Your Records For 60 Years!

On April 29th, The Department of Justice and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unveiled a package of 34 proposed and final rules.

This rules package, the largest ever released by the agency is filled with updates, clarifications, and rescinds some rules as well. Not all of it is good though, and some changes have the potential to impact gun owners negatively.

Today on the Minuteman Moment, Ben goes over all 34 of ATF's new rules and gives GOA's interpretation of each.

At this time, final / proposed rules have not been sent to the federal register. When the text for these rules are available, the GOA legal & federal affairs team will be combing through them for further details.

Here's How ATF's 34 Rules Will Affect Gun Rights (What We Know So Far)

There are provisions that move in the right direction, including protections for interstate firearm transportation. Some appear unrelated to core Second Amendment issues. And others raise serious concerns—especially anything that edges toward long-term firearm tracking or registration.

Let’s be clear: federal agencies don’t get to rewrite the Constitution.

GOA will be digging through every rule, line by line. If something protects the rights of gun owners, we’ll acknowledge it. If it crosses the line, we’ll challenge it.

Rolling back Biden-era overreach—like the Stabilizing Brace Rule and the so-called “Engaged in the Business” rule—is a step forward. But partial fixes don’t settle the issue.

The Second Amendment stands on its own—and we intend to keep it that way.
