GOA/GOF Seminar And Press Conference

GOA to hold Press Conference / GOF to host Seminar Luncheon
— plus other odds and ends

(Thursday, June 26, 1997) In cooperation with the office of Representative Helen Chenoweth (R-ID), two events will be held on Capitol Hill the afternoon of Monday, July 14, 1997. Both events are free; GOA members and supporters are invited to attend.

First, Gun Owners Foundation will present a seminar/luncheon. Members of Congress and their Firearms/Judiciary Staffs will receive invitations.

Are women placed at risk by the new Lautenberg Act? Does a law that supposedly protects women and children actually endanger those same groups? These questions will be answered over lunch as the following speakers share their knowledge and experience:

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp

Member Texas State House of Representatives
Survivor of the Luby’s massacre in Killeen, Texas

Other Speakers:

Janalee Tobias

President, Women Against Gun Control

Rebecca John Wyatt

President, SWARM (Safety for Women and Responsible Motherhood)

*Additional Speakers TBA*

Following the luncheon, Gun Owners of America will hold a press conference. Its purpose will be to accelerate efforts to repeal the Lautenberg Domestic Violence Gun Ban. As you may know, Rep. Chenoweth’s bill (H.R. 1009) is the only legislation currently before Congress which will repeal the gun ban in its entirety. It is also the leading repeal initiative, as its 27 cosponsors will attest.

Rep. Chenoweth, GOA personnel, and representatives of several grass-roots organizations will gather with members of the press to focus attention on the issue. One highlight will be when Janalee Tobias, President of Women Against Gun Control, presents Rep. Chenoweth with boxes of petitions in support of the repeal — petitions that many of you have signed. Note: if you have not as yet signed the Women Against Gun Control petition, a cgi version is at http://www.gunowners.org/petition.htm on the GOA website. We will append your personal information and any comment you care to make to a copy of the petition and deliver it to WAGC. Men and women both are invited to sign. Help make the presentation of the petition a visually exciting moment! If you do not have web access, we will fax or e-mail you a copy upon request.

Any Second Amendment supporter who will be in the D.C. area on July 14 is welcome to attend these events. However, space is limited. Please call Jerry Tramontano at GOA headquarters (703) 321-8585 to reserve your seat if you wish to be a part of this historic day. You may also RSVP via e-mail.

New Congressional Auto-Mailer

In addition to signing the petition, another way you can help get the Lautenberg gun ban repealed is to contact Congress urging support for H.R. 1009. To that end, we have added an Auto-mailer to the website. It is currently configured to send e-mail to all Representatives who have not yet cosponsored the bill. All you have to do is surf on over to http://www.gunowners.org/mailerx.html and enter your personal information — the text is pre-written. Or, you may elect to write your own message, to any Member of Congress.
