ATF GUIDANCE IS HERE!
And there are some big changes thanks to GOA’s lawsuit victory…
ATF just released guidance on our massive victory in our “One Big Beautiful Lawsuit,” which struck down the registration requirements for short barreled firearms and suppressors.
This is huge news. In the weeks following our victory, GOA has been lobbying both the White House and Congress to press ATF to issue guidance so that Americans can access their Second Amendment rights without fear of government reproach.
And, it looks like this guidance might be exactly what gun owners have been waiting for.

NFA GUIDANCE IS HERE!
ATF has finally issued guidance following GOA’s historic NFA victory.
The agency says it will no longer enforce federal registration and approval requirements for suppressors and short-barreled firearms for everyone, nationwide.
Here’s what they said in their open letter to FFLs:
“Although the district court’s injunction applies only to plaintiffs and certain other specified persons, the Department has determined to exercise its enforcement discretion to create greater uniformity, consistent with the Attorney General’s statement today.”
“Consequently, effective October 9, 2026, ATF will no longer require individuals to seek ATF approval under the NFA before making or transferring short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, silencers, and “any other weapon[s]”
“These policies apply uniformly to anyone otherwise subject to these requirements, not just to the plaintiffs in the litigation“

WE’RE SURE YOU HAVE QUESTIONS…
With a change this big to federal regulation, we’re sure that you have questions.
Luckily, ATF has released an FAQ that deals with some of the most-asked questions we’ve had regarding ATF’s enforcement of the NFA, and what gun owners can expect.
While GOA’s ultimate goal is to abolish ATF and all gun control nationwide, this transparency is a step in the right direction from ATF.
Gun owners who are unsure of what to do next should consult legal counsel before taking any further actions.
Extra Protection for GOA Members!
There’s some good news that applies specifically to our members, though.
In ATF’s FAQ, there’s a section titled “Future Risk.”
In that section, ATF warns of the risks that could occur if a future Presidential Administration revokes what ATF has issued today.
The good news for GOA members?
GOA members will be protected if the next administration reverses course.
How is that possible? Well, GOA’s court victory still protects all GOA members.
Retaining your membership is important, and includes you in our lawsuit victory.
THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS.
ATF’s guidance today helps gun owners across the country better understand the results of GOA’s lawsuit victory, and what ATF’s future plans are for this situation.
This massive change in federal policy would not have happened without the work of GOA, our members, our allies in Congress, the co-plaintiffs on our lawsuit and of course, President Trump and his administration.
We want to take a second to thank those who made it possible, and thank YOU, our members, for fighting so hard to accomplish this win with us.
But our fight isn’t over yet.
The NFA still exists, and gun control still is on the books. Until that changes, GOA will not stop fighting to protect and restore the Second Amendment.
This is just one victory in a fight that we’ll be continuing until gun control no longer exists.
