VA: GOA Challenges Handgun Limit — AG Miyares is Defending It

Call Attorney General Miyares and urge him to stop defending One Handgun a Month!

(804) 786-2071

Gun Owners of America and the Virginia Citizens Defense League is currently fighting Virginia’s unconstitutional One Handgun a Month law in court. This law arbitrarily limits your ability to exercise your Second Amendment rights and forces needless government hoops just to purchase a firearm.

Instead of siding with Virginians, Attorney General Jason Miyares has chosen to stand with gun-control advocates. His office — which you can reach out to at (804) 786-2071 — has filed motions seeking to throw out our case on technicalities, arguing that GOA and VCDL have no right to challenge the law and that we should have sued local officials who have no role in enforcing it. These tactics are not the actions of a neutral official, they are the moves of someone determined to protect bad laws.

Miyares is also defending the law by claiming it is “constitutional” simply because citizens can technically buy more than one handgun per month if they endure a drawn-out, discretionary permit process. That position ignores reality in the face of federal court precedent. Even the often anti-gun Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously struck down California’s nearly identical law in Junior Sports Magazines, Inc. v. Bonta. If this law couldn’t survive scrutiny in California, it cannot stand in Virginia.

When he ran for office, Miyares promised to defend your rights. But, his record now shows the opposite: he’s wasting time and taxpayer resources fighting to keep unconstitutional restrictions on the books.

Now is the time for gun owners to send him a message.

Contact Attorney General Jason Miyares today at (804) 786-2071 and demand that he drop his defense of One Handgun a Month.

A short and simple message is most effective.

“My name is ____ and I am a Virginia resident and a member of Gun Owners of America. I am urging Attorney General Jason Miyares to stop defending the One Handgun a Month law. Courts have already struck down similar restrictions as unconstitutional. Virginians deserve an Attorney General who protects their rights, not one who fights against them.”

By holding Attorney General Miyares accountable, we can stop this wasteful defense of gun control and ensure that Virginians are free to purchase firearms without arbitrary limits, delays, or government roadblocks.

Please join me and make your voice heard in Richmond by calling (804) 786-2071; let Jason Miyares know that Virginians will not accept an anti-2A Attorney General.
