Rand Paul’s commitment to the right to keep and bear arms is unwavering. He understands that the framers of the Constitution viewed private ownership of firearms not merely as a hunting or sporting issue, but chiefly as a safeguard of liberty.
Dr. Paul is committed not only to defending the Second Amendment against further legislative attacks, but also in rolling back unconstitutional gun laws that are on the books.
In contrast, Dr. Paul’s opponent said he supports the unconstitutional gun laws that exist today. He also supports prohibiting private firearms sales at gun shows, which is tantamount to closing such events down.
Dr. Paul understands that the government is growing at an out-of-control rate, and that many politicians would like to regulate the Second Amendment out of existence. Thomas Jefferson noted in 1798 that “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.”
If we don’t put a halt—quickly—to the continued growth of the federal government at the expense of our liberty, at some point it will be too late to turn things around.
