GOA Responds to the President on the Oregon Shooting
-- Top Ten misstatements made by Obama

On October 1, 2015, the nation witnessed another tragic shooting -- this one at the Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

The President shortly took to a national platform to address the killings.

This should have been an opportunity for the President to unite a grieving nation. But instead, he chose to foment division. He even bragged that it was right for him to politicize this tragedy.

GOA Responds to Oregon Shooting

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families,” said GOA Director of Communications Erich Pratt. “This is a very tragic day, and all Americans are mourning with the residents of Oregon.

“But we find it offensive to hear the White House use a tragedy like this, and instantly turn it into a political opportunity. The President spoke to the nation today, saying it’s proper for him to politicize this tragedy. He called for more ‘common sense’ gun control, which is insane, given that the criminally-minded don't obey the law,” Pratt said.

“It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun,” the President said. He then rattled off a list of gun free zones where shooters had inflicted damage, including Columbine, Blacksburg, Newtown, Aurora and Charleston.

Gun Owners of America: Time For All Establishment Office Holders To Follow John Boehner's Lead

Over the weekend, Breitbart News sat down with Gun Owners of America’s (GOA’s) Larry Pratt to ask his opinion on House Speaker Rep. John Boehner’s (R-OH-8th) plans to resign, and Pratt said he was thrilled with the news. He said he also hopes Boehner is not alone among Republicans when he packs his bags to leave the Capitol for good.

On September 15, Breitbart News reported that Gun Owners of America was supporting Rep. Mark Meadows’s efforts to oust Boehner.

At that time, the GOA said:

As long as John Boehner is Speaker, your gun rights are in danger. After all, remember in spring of 2013, when the pro-gun community was engulfed in the “battle of the century” over the Bloomberg/Obama gun control agenda? John Boehner could have nipped gun control in the bud by pronouncing that gun control would be “dead on arrival” in the House. Instead, he said that the “House will consider” any gun control proposals sent over by the Senate.

Open Letter to Guns.com

Gun Owners of America would like to respond to Jared Morgan’s article entitled, “Ted Cruz endorsement of controversial gun group signals shift in GOP.”

For starters, let me say that we at GOA enjoy the Guns.com site. We have posted several Guns.com articles to our own Facebook page, and we appreciate what you do.

But we were very disappointed to see that you were in large part parroting the talking points of the anti-gun Left, without even contacting us.

We expect this from Media Matters and Rolling Stone. We don’t expect it from a pro-gun journalist who is dedicated to “writing objective, originally-reported and aggregated pieces focused on law enforcement, courts, politics and legislation” as your bio states.

Cruz Defends Second Amendment, Promotes GOA Endorsement During Debate

Sen. Ted Cruz defended the Second Amendment rights of all Americans during last night’s presidential debate, and also cited his endorsement by Gun Owners of America.

“Indeed, just a couple of years ago when Harry Reid and Barack Obama came after the right to keep and bear arms of millions of Americans, I was proud to lead the fight in the United States Senate to protect our right to keep and bear arms,” Cruz said.

“And for that reason, I was honored to be endorsed by Gun Owners of America as the strongest supporter of the Second Amendment on this stage today, and I will fight every day to defend the Bill of Rights.”

McCain: Major League Hypocrite
Larry Pratt
(December 2000)

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) flamed out in his presidential bid on the issue of so-called "campaign reform."

The Senator's bill would have expanded the price controls that have already been unconstitutionally imposed on free speech. He targeted so-called soft money expenditures which discuss issues and candidates but do not urge people to vote.

McCain's plan was to protect incumbents, such as himself, by closing off discussions of public officials which are intended to inform the public about their voting records without urging people to vote one way or the other. McCain would have prohibited mentioning an incumbent by name 60 days before an election.

That would translate in a presidential race to prohibiting Gun Owners of America from criticizing John McCain's anti-gun votes (C-- on Gun Owners of America's rating of the Senate) from around Christmas of the year before the general election in November.

But this fall, Mr. Clean chose to drench the airwaves with TV and radio spots in Colorado and Oregon on behalf of voter initiatives to register gun buyers in the name of closing the so-called "gun show loophole." With an endless supply of soft money dollars from the CEO of Monster.com, Andrew McKelvey, McCain the major league hypocrite, told voters of these two states that gun control would be good for them.

The Oregon measure would have registered gun buyers for five years with the State police, as well as the FBI. One of the sheriffs supporting the measure asserted that Americans have no individual right to keep and bear arms.

Let's hope that when John McCain runs for reelection to the Senate, the voters of Arizona do what the voters in the Republican presidential primary did to McCain -- defeat him.

John McCain would then have a legacy based on his attempt to destroy the First and the Second Amendments. That might be good enough to get a statue of him put up in Washington, D.C. where contempt for the Constitution is a badge of esteem.
