WY: The Wyoming Senate Introduced and Referred A Second Amendment Protection Act to Committee!

GOA-backed SF0102 was successfully introduced into the Senate by a 21 to 9 vote!  This is great news because the Bill received the two-thirds vote needed to be considered during a Budget Session.

This Bill, called the Wyoming Second Amendment Protection Act, if enacted into law, would make it illegal for state and local officials to enforce or cooperate with unconstitutional Federal gun control.

There has been a lot of confusion about SF0102 and a similar Bill that has not received the necessary votes to be introduced.

Some opponents of SF0102 have claimed that it does not prohibit Wyoming officials from enforcing unconstitutional gun control or that it only applies to firearms manufactured in Wyoming.

In fact, as you can read for yourself by clicking this link, SF0102 clearly prohibits both the use of funds and personnel to enforce draconian federal gun control.

Further, some groups may be confused because SF0102 references penalties found in the Wyoming Firearms Freedom Act of 2010.  Those penalties currently do only apply to Wyoming firearms.  However, upon passage, SF0102 will apply those same penalties to any future gun control effort.  THIS IS A HUGE WIN FOR WYOMING FIREARMS FREEDOMS!

Achieving the required two-thirds threshold for introduction and committee assignment is a major step forward in protecting the right to keep and bear arms in Wyoming!

The next challenge for this Bill will be a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday, February 21 at 8 A.M.  The Hearing location will likely be in the Capital Extension, and you can find more information and even testify remotely using this link where final information should be posted 24 hours in advance (https://wyoleg.gov/Committees/2022/J01).

Four of the Judiciary Committee Members are cosponsors of SF0102 and voted for it today.

GOA wants to thank Senators CooperKolbKost, and Nethercott for co-sponsoring SF0102!

Please call or e-mail and thank these four members of the Senate Judiciary Committee for cosponsoring SF0102 and encourage them to quickly move this Bill without any weakening amendments.

Senator Tim French, who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee, voted against SF0102.

Please call and e-mail Senator French and ask him to vote to approve SF0102 during Monday’s Senate Judiciary Hearing.

We must guard against efforts to weaken or undermine SF0102 while passing a law that only provides marginal or weak protections.  Gun Owners of America will not accept a weak bill just to make citizens think they are being protected.

Senator Hicks’ current Bill (SF0102) has the protections we need, so urge your Wyoming Senators and Representatives to pass SF0102 without weakening amendments.

SF0102 faces several critical votes over the coming days and weeks, and we will provide regular updates about this important legislation and how you can help pass it into law to protect your Second Amendment rights!  In the meantime, please contact your Senators and Representatives and urge them to act.
