Many gun owners in Connecticut have inquired recently about the status of Senate Bill 1094, legislation to ban magazines holding 10 or more rounds.

If passed, the bill would require that lawfully possessed “large capacity magazines” be removed from the state or turned over to the police within 30 days.  Failure to do so could result in a felony conviction and confiscation of such magazines by the police.

The good news is that thousands of gun owners and sportsmen throughout the state flooded their legislators with emails and phone calls, and hundreds showed up to voice their opposition to the bill in a Judiciary Committee meeting last month that went on for more than 12 hours.

Subsequently, the legislation was not taken up by the Judiciary Committee’s April 15 deadline to pass bills.  According to State Sen. John Kissel, the ranking Republican member on the committee and a strong gun rights supporter, the bill is “basically dead.”

Of course, no legislation is truly dead until the June 8 adjournment and the anti-gunners in Hartford could bring the measure up as an amendment in the House or Senate.  GOA will continue to monitor this legislation and will send out an alert should it begin to move.
