Gun Owners of America Executive Director Larry Pratt issued the following statement today.

“In my nearly three decades at Gun Owners of America, I have met many, many candidates like Representative Brad Carson. Carson is precisely the sort of candidate who gives politicians a bad name.

“Today, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to repeal a Washington, DC law which prevents honest citizens from owning firearms to defend their homes and families. Rep. Carson voted for that legislation, just like the rest of the Oklahoma delegation. He knew his vote would be a matter of public record.

“It is what Brad Carson does when he does not think the voters of Oklahoma are watching that concerns me. When given a choice to hire anyone in America to give him policy advice on issues like gun control, Carson hired Blaine Greteman, who signed his name to an article calling for a ban on all handguns.

“The Brad Carsons of politics are as anti-gun as they can get away with given their constituencies. They never offer legislation to repeal anti-gun laws currently on the books and are suckers for any anti-gun “compromise” offered them.

“Compared to Brad Carson, Dr. Tom Coburn is a Rock of Gibraltar on the Second Amendment. Carson is a compromiser, based on his actual voting record as reported by GOA.

“Not only did Coburn have an A rating while in the U.S. House of Representatives, Coburn authored the Second Amendment Rights Protection Act which would have prohibited the FBI from taxing and registering gun purchasers.

“Unlike Coburn, Carson has never sponsored legislation to repeal unconstitutional gun laws. The U.S. Senate has been a swamp that mires pro-gun initiatives which receive overwhelming support in the U.S. House. Brad Carson will not help to drain the swamp if elected to the Senate.

“Carson’s vote today is too little, too late to earn the support of gun owners.”
