Democrat: Planned Parenthood Attack Shows Need for Gun Control (Already on Colorado’s Books)

During the November 29 airing of This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) blamed the Planned Parenthood shooting on the failure to pass gun controls that have been on the books in Colorado since 2013.

Schiff condemned the failure to pass “universal background checks” and a “high capacity” magazine ban, both of which were signed into law by CO Governor John Hickenlooper (D) in the Spring of 2013.

According to The Hill, Schiff was suggesting the need for more gun control to keep mentally ill persons from acquiring firearms, when he said:

Well, I think this is a big issue that there’s too ready access of people who are seriously mentally ill to firearms. But nothing we have done has worked because essentially we have done nothing. The background checks are not universal, so even if people who are mentally ill would be barred if they buy it off the back of a truck or they buy it at a gun show, it’s not going to stop them from getting a weapon. If they can still have access to very powerful weapons with extended ammunition clips, they’re still going to be able to kill a lot of people.

On November 28, Breitbart News reported that Colorado has universal background checks, a “high capacity” magazine ban, and high-profile shootings.
