Gun Owners of America Wins Two Legislative Victories

Springfield, VA –  Gun Owners of America (GOA), with its grassroots activists, has won two pro-gun victories in Congress.

First, GOA helped remove Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) legislative language that would have placed hunting devices under the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration.

“Reps. Richard Hudson (R-NC) and Greg Walden (R-OR) — along with their top-flight staffs — worked with GOA to neuter the Warren language and explicitly exclude hunting devices from any FDA regulation,” Pratt said. This bill has passed the House with the pro-gun protections.

Second, GOA and its activists were successful in preventing federal health care legislation from collecting information on gun owners.

“Thankfully, we peeled off enough conservative Senators to sink the ObamaCare ‘lite’ bill,” Pratt said.

Special kudos go to Sen. Paul, who was prepared to introduce an amendment preventing gun owners’ information from being abused under ObamaCare.  GOA previously urged its grassroots members to contact their Senators to urge support for the Paul amendment, in case it were to come to the Senate floor for a vote (which it did not).

“The victory in this first skirmish is significant, but the battle is not over,” Pratt said.

These pro-gun victories are the result of the pressure applied by GOA’s members.

“We are very grateful for our network of 1.5 million members and activists around the country,” Pratt said. “These victories remind us why it’s essential for all Second Amendment supporters to stay vigilant and remain loud — something that GOA’s grassroots do very well.”

Erich Pratt, or another GOA spokesperson, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over 1.5 million members and activists.
