Trenton Lawmaker Would Send Kids to Prison for BB Pistols

You think you’ve heard all there is to hear about the harebrained ideas of nutty state legislators with time on their hands?

Think again.

Anti-gun nut Linda Stender has introduced legislation in the state Assembly which would make it a crime for anyone to “knowingly [have] in his possession … upon any part of the buildings or grounds of any school, college, university or other educational institution,” an air gun pistol for which the propelling force is “compressed air.”

Is she serious?

It’s bad enough that Assembly Bill 1216 would send a kid to prison for keeping a BB pistol in his room at his boarding school … or at Princeton.  But now you’ll have to make sure you inspect your car before driving up to a school to pick up your kid, or else you’ll face becoming a criminal.

Legislators will counter that the language in Assembly Bill 1216 says any air pistol, covered by the bill, must be able to generate “sufficient force to injure a person.”  Of course, any gun owner knows that BB guns can injure and, in some infrequent cases, even kill a person.

The answer is not a bigger Nanny State.  The answer is parental discipline and self-responsibility.

New Jersey doesn’t need more gun control.  We need to work on repealing laws on the books.

Dear Assemblyman:
