Gun Control Fails To Stop Criminals From Getting Guns
  • Washington, D.C.: A Case Study In The Failure Of Gun Control
Once enjoying rather low murder rates, the District of Columbia eventually became the nation's "Murder Capital" -- but only after the city imposed one of the most draconian gun bans in the country in 1976.
  • Gun Control Supporters Admit Brady Law Has Failed To Cut Murder Rates
One of the nation's leading anti-gun medical publications, the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that the Brady registration law has failed to reduce murder rates. In August 2000, JAMA reported that states implementing waiting periods and background checks did "not [experience] reductions in homicide rates or overall suicide rates."
  • After Imposing Draconian Gun Ban, England Becomes The World-Leader In Crime
Despite instituting a draconian gun ban in 1997, England has seen its violent crime rate soar in subsequent years. According to the BBC News, handgun crime in the United Kingdom rose by 40% in the two years after it passed its ban. And according to the 2000 United Nations study accessed here, England's crime rate is now the highest among all the industrialized nations of the earth -- including the United States. All this makes one wonder: if a total gun ban can't work to cut crime and keep illegal guns out of criminals' hands ON AN ISLAND, what makes us think that any amount of gun control will do better in this country?
