(Springfield, VA) — Gun Owners of America encouraged legislators in the several states to follow Maryland’s example by teaching firearms safety classes in its public schools. Legislation requiring these classes in Maryland passed the House recently and is now headed for the desk of Governor Parris Glendening (D), who has indicated he will sign the bill.

“If done right, this safety training could be extremely significant,” said Erich Pratt, who is the Director of Communications for Gun Owners of America.

“Two and a half million people use a gun to defend themselves every year,” said Pratt. “Children need to learn about the positive uses of firearms and understand how to use them responsibly.”
