City attorney’s comments spotlight how California gun laws endanger citizens

A candid comment by the city attorney for San Bernardino, Calif., admits that local government is powerless to protect residents, and that they are on their own against murderous criminals, CBS Los Angeles reported today.

“Well, if I remember right, I told them to ‘lock their doors and load their guns,'” Jim Penman told the network affiliate.

Citing a “city … dealing with bankruptcy, which has forced officials to cut its police force by about 80 officers,” Penman cited “45 murders this year” — a “50 percent increase” per the news account — and admitted to there being too few police officers and too many criminals, none of which has dulled San Bernardino Mayor Patrick J. Morris’s enthusiasm for his membership in Mike Bloomberg’s citizen disarmament coalition.
