GOA to Senate: Adopt Paul’s Amendment to Protect Gun Owners from ObamaCare

Springfield, VA –  Gun Owners of America (GOA) is urging the Senate to adopt Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) amendment to the Cassidy-Graham proposal to prevent medical data from being used to disarm gun owners.

Sen. Paul’s amendment would guarantee Second Amendment rights under any version of healthcare that replaces ObamaCare by:

  • Prohibiting the ATF from trolling the ObamaCare database in order to ban guns for people with medical conditions such as PTSD — a diagnosis which has contributed to more than 257,000 military veterans being denied their gun rights;
  • Prohibiting insurance companies from asking about or discriminating on the basis of gun ownership; and,
  • Prohibiting the states from forcing doctors to enter gun ownership information into the federal health database.

“GOA applauds Sen. Paul for introducing this amendment to protect gun owners from a pernicious gun control law,” Erich Pratt, Executive Director of GOA said. “Any replacement healthcare considered by Congress should wipe out the anti-gun provisions of ObamaCare, which Democrats rammed through in 2010. I urge the Senate to adopt Paul’s Amendment to protect the rights of gun owners.”

GOA is activating Second Amendment supporters to call their Senators and urge them to support the Paul Amendment.

“Let’s drive a stake through the heart of this ObamaCare vampire once and for all,” Pratt concluded.

Erich Pratt, or another GOA spokesperson, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over 1.5 million members and activists.
