The Lawbreaker in Chief Violates the Law Once Again

— How the President’s illegal amnesty will affect your gun rights

“[A] Pew poll suggests that illegal immigrants, if given citizenship, would vote for liberal, anti-gun candidates by an 8-to-1 margin.” — GOA’s Erich Pratt, commenting on Pew poll findings as reported in The Washington Post (7/22/13)

The President says the action he took last night is not amnesty.

Regardless, President Obama announced yesterday that he will defer the deportation of roughly five million immigrants who are living in the country illegally.

The path the President has chosen will, ultimately, affect our gun rights in many ways.

For starters, the President is trying to turn our country “blue” — by locking in a constituency that is known to vote for liberal, anti-gun Democrats by an 8-1 margin.  Sure, the President’s new policy does not “officially” put these illegals on the path to citizenship — not yet.  That will come later.

But this is exactly what happened to California — which was once a Red State.  Because of the Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty bill of 1986, the state lurched violently to the left and now can’t pass gun control restrictions fast enough.

If this were to happen at the national level, we would lose the ability to stop massive gun bans and gun registration schemes.  And all of this occurs at a time when Americans OPPOSE the President’s taking unilateral action by a 48-38 percent margin (according to an NBC/WSJ poll this week).

The President’s action also further weakens the Rule of Law in this country.  Without this legal principle, the Second Amendment (and all of our rights) are in jeopardy.

Ironically, the President himself — on 22 occasions in previous years — said that he could not take unilateral executive action on immigration.  He even said that doing so would make him an “emperor.”

But the President acted like a dictator last night, by taking a significant policy action without congressional approval.

Gun owners need to understand that the President’s decree last night was not about some altruistic notion of “doing the right thing.”  No, this illegal amnesty is all about political power.  It’s a blatant attempt by the President to make his Party the ascendant one in America.

For their part, the Republicans are promising legal action in the courts and legislation to defund the President’s policy.  While it will be a difficult fight, these actions are essential to restoring the Rule of Law in this country.

And this is why it’s so important that Americans show their congressional leaders — especially, Republicans — that “We the People” want them to restrain the President’s illegal activities.

So there are two things that all Americans should ask for:

1. Do NOT allow Harry Reid and the Democrats to fund the government with a long-term Continuing Resolution through September of next year.  That would lock in this illegal amnesty by the President and lock in the anti-gun ObamaCare mandate.

It is essential that Congress pass a SHORT-TERM CR so that the Republican Congress can DEFUND these and other unconstitutional actions by the President early next year.

2. Legislators should also follow Senator Ted Cruz’ suggestion that the Senate refuse to confirm a single nominee — executive or judicial — outside of vital national security positions, “so long as the illegal amnesty persists.”

As state by Senator Cruz, “This is a potent tool given to Congress by the Constitution explicitly to act as a check on executive power.  It is a constitutional power of the Majority Leader alone, and it would serve as a significant deterrent to a lawless President.”

ACTION: Urge your Representatives and Senators to do everything in their power to rein in the President’s illegal amnesty, which will have a long-term (negative) impact upon gun owners’ rights.
